NiMH Range Restore TSB 00 22 04

This Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) restores the driving range of your NiMH Ranger EV by performing a deep discharge and then recharge. It does not apply to PbA Ranger EVs and must be uses only on the NiMH Ranger EV.

When I’m planning to reset the NiMH pack by performing this procedure, I like to drive my truck until almost empty, park and wait until the next morning when the pack has been cooled by the morning air. I drive the truck just around the neighborhood near my PCS until the Low Fuel Light starts to flash and then park near the PCS so it will be positioned to recharge the pack after it’s been drained.

I like to check and clear all DTC codes first and last. This allows me to see if there have been any events I should take note of before proceeding.

The NiMH battery chemistry is amazing and well suited to battery electric vehicles. Take good care of them and they’ll give you many years of electric driving enjoyment.

This procedure allows you to utilize the NGS Tester to track the Battery Control Module (BCM) and Traction Battery as you perform a deep discharge and then recharge the Traction Battery to restore the driving range of your NiMH Ranger EV

A convenient form to track the Deep Discharge and Recharge process and have a maintenance record to keep.
