Do You Need Tools?

The New Generation Star Tester is a critical piece of equipment for Ranger EV owners. It is required to perform the basic tests and monitoring of your truck. The workshop manual includes all the directions you’ll need to perform a wide range of tests. You need a NGS Tester! New, they’re about $2500, but can generally be purchased on Craigslist or Ebay for about $400-$700 used. Besides the NGS tester, you’ll also need a Ranger EV Program card (PCMCIA Linear Flash Memory Card) that includes the programming necessary for the NGS to monitor and control your truck.

Here’s a NGS Basics Guide to help you learn how to use an NGS Tester to check out your Ranger EV.

A select number of Ford Dealers were designated Ford Authorized Ranger EV dealers and were provided a special tool kit and custom battery tray lift. The entire kit is reported to have cost the dealers $60,000! Like the Ranger EV Program Cards, these kits are very rare.
